The No Child Left Behind Act of 2001 (NCLB) requires schools to be assessed each year to determine if they are making Adequate Yearly Progress (AYP) toward meeting the state’s student academic achievement standards. Schools that do not make AYP are designated Program Improvement (PI) schools. Schools that have not made AYP for more than one year are designated PI Year 2 schools.

Federal law requires that all parents/guardians of students in PI schools be offered an opportunity to transfer their children via district transportation to another district school or charter school that is not in PI. Currently, both elementary schools and the middle school are identified as PI schools. More Information on Supplemental Educational Services

If their child attends a Title I school that has been designated by the state of California to be in need of improvement for more than one year (PI Year 2 or more), low-income families are eligible to enroll their child in Supplemental Educational Services (SES). The term "Supplemental Educational Services" refers to free extra academic help, such as tutoring or remedial help, that is provided to students in subjects such as reading, language arts, and math. More information on Supplemental Educational Services can be obtained by clicking here: HUSD SES Webpage
